Artist Statement:

I feel that being an artist is a very special gift. It is my way to inform and inspire others. I am dedicated to knowing the importance of gratitude and accountability for having such a wondrous ability.  We artists are channels.  Our art is for the world, not just ourselves.

Many of my original pieces are scanned and have limited editions and standard prints available because it is essential to me that those who cannot afford the originals get to have the images hanging in their space as well. My work is to be shared and enjoyed.  That is the purpose of it.

I collect originals and prints of other artists' work as well to create flow and ease among us. Because I believe that there is always enough to go around, when I am blessed with a sale I return the favor to another who inspires me.  That is my responsibility as an artist and my method of honor.  I am so grateful for my talent, it has brought me healing and joy my entire life.  May that gratitude guide me always.

 Biography:

Art permeates every aspect of my life. I have been a professional fine artist for twelve years, a tattoo artist for two years and am now specializing in mehndi art as well. It is my desire to succeed at whatever medium calls to me. I am skilled with oils, acrylics, watercolor, graphite, and my latest love, markers. Every medium creates a different style within me and broadens my artistic abilities.

My career accelerates with persistence. Since the beginning of 2008 I have been featured three times on Juxtapoz.com, a very well known art website for pop culture, for my marker drawings and to showcase my portrait of Barack Obama titled "Metamorphosis."  I have been featured on the international artist community deviantart.com for my piece titled "Balanced Vulnerability", a nude done in sharpie markers.  In addition I  have thrice been featured on redbubble.com, another international art website for my t-shirts.  I won the mosaicglobe.com website competition for tradional art.  Furthermore, I won the Curators Choice Award for Barebrush.com and I have am featured on this art website for the August, September and December 2008 and January 2009 calendars.  I am linked on photozen.com, the website of the international red cross photographer, Fred Clarke.  My work has been shown throughout the hemisphere, from my home state of Tennessee to the Northeast, California, Atlanta, and the Caribbean. I have participated in shows at venues such as the Dirty Show in Detroit,  The Hive Gallery in LA, The Belcourt Theatre Gallery, The Lowbrow Gallery in Atlanta,  Muse Haven, The Art and Invention Gallery, The Ninth Life Gallery, and MuseX Bazaar where I was the resident artist. I have filled two model homes with commission work for Haury and Smith Contractors as well as the hotel, Steeple Chase Inn and have donated art to "Artrageous."  I have also been featured on Art Action Union for my political portraits and volunteer artwork to raise awareness for certain issues.  In addition, I have been published in the art magazine "Poets and Artists" for the self portrait issue.

I am continuously commissioned to paint and draw portraits. These have an essential impact on each individual's self-objectivity and self-acceptance. I am expanding this awareness with my series "True Beauty", depicting the natural beauty of women.  Likewise, an inspirational body of political work is emerging with portraits such as Benazir Bhutto, Mariane Pearl, Martin Luther King Jr. and  Barack Obama.  I have many more planned with this political series. My intention is to inform and inspire others to become more involved in creating peace and equal abundance across our earth.  I'm also working with my seven year old son, Josiathe, on a series called "The Child Within".  He and I draw the pieces together and I complete them. These are fun and whimsical.  And my most current series, "Mehndi" is a body of acrylic paintings based on the beautiful and intricate designs of the ancient art of henna.  Being a mehndi artist, I desire to capture this intricate beauty on canvas so it may last many life times.

Art is my passion. I see the world in its inspirational truth. Every person's eyes have a story.  Every tree and flower is a mystery. The world around me is a perfect intricacy. I am in constant awe and appreciation.
